Each year, SEAREG conducts events designed for participants to engage in thoughtful discussion and analysis of critical research questions affecting the countries of Southeast Asia.

Conferences

The core SEAREG events are our semi-annual conferences in North America and, since 2017, in Asia. At these meetings, SEAREG Fellows present unpublished working papers, promoting dialogue on salient issues affecting the region. Additionally, mid-career and advanced scholars present papers in Thematic Sessions and senior scholars and policy practitioners share their perspectives on broad topics related to the state of the field (trends and themes related to scholarship of Southeast Asia) and the state of the region (emerging issues rife with possibility for further study).

These events provide ample opportunities for networking, a chance to explore collaborative research projects, and a forum for younger scholars to learn more about the realities of an academic or policy-oriented career path.

The conference schedule and environment evolve each year in response to feedback from members.
